Summer Camp offers full-day care during the summer months for children entering 1st through 8th grade. Camp is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday. The program is located a different elementary school site each year at which we use the entire facility. In 2014 Summer Camp will be at Laurel Elementary School.
Approximately 325 to 400 children are served each year, with over 40% requiring reduced fees. For working parents, especially single parents, our Summer Camp offers a great option where they know their children will be well cared for, and offered lots of fun options each day. Parents are able to book Summer Camp for as few or as many days as they need during the 10 week program.
Following the Johns Hopkins Model to prevent learning slide during the summer, children explore learning in a fun summertime environment involving hands-on activities in science, art, cultures, environmental education, field trips, theme days, and more. They receive two nutritional snacks each day: one in the morning, and the other in the afternoon. Some of the enrichment activities that the children have enjoyed include drama workshop, rock climbing, scuba, karate, building a drum, and archery.
Enrichment activities this year will include weekly opportunities to join in: Improv, Zumba, Cooking, Crafts, Musical Adventures, Russian, Japanese, and Science Fun.
Staff are well trained and are qualified to serve all children within our program. Annual training requirements and a low student-to-staff ratio help to ensure that we maintain a high quality of care for all of the children in our programs. Staff members are either credentialed or in school working toward their degrees. Each staff member is screened through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Colorado Dept. of Human Services.
